Does Liposuction Leave Saggy Skin?

Liposuction or body contouring is the most heavily requested cosmetic surgical treatment among both men and women. It helps eliminate those localized fat pockets that are unresponsive to diet and exercise and allows the surgeon to sculpt the body to the desired shape. However, the sagging skin that remains after fat removal can prevent you from achieving your body contouring goals. In fact, conventional liposuction usually needs an additional procedure to remove excess skin. Leading plastic surgeons recommend lipolysis using the FDA-approved advanced minimally invasive Smartlipo Triplex workstation as the answer to the problem. Performed using a high-powered laser, the procedure removes fat and also tightens loose skin.

SmartLipo liposuction involves the use a laser to precisely melt the fat, allowing for a better contouring of the skin that was not possible before. This advanced laser technology actually tightens the skin from the inside, eliminating any need for skin removal. A study that appeared in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal compared the skin tightening results of SmartLipo MPX and traditional liposuction. It was a small study involving just 10 patients who wanted to remove abdominal fat and had mild to moderate skin laxity. Each patient had liposuction alone or laser- assisted liposuction on a randomly selected side of the body.

Post-operative evaluation after one month and three months showed favorable skin shrinkage and skin tightening effects. The author of the study noted that the mean skin shrinkage ratios were considerably higher on the laser-treated side than on the suction side.

The Smartlipo Triplex workstation is the latest in liposuction technology. It is equipped with three laser wavelengths (1064nm, 1320nm and 1440nm) that can be used individually or blended to deliver optimal patient outcomes. The lasers work to disrupt the fat cells for easy removal. They promote tissue retraction by coagulating the tissue and stimulate collagen production to tighten the skin. The procedure can address excess fat in almost all areas such as abdomen, buttocks, love handles, saddle bags, hips, back, knees, inner thighs, outer thighs, upper arms, face, neck and chin.

However, laser lipo this is not a solution for weight loss – it can only remove small pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is recommended for those who are close to their ideal body weight and those with elastic skin can expect a better outcome. Nevertheless, while the use of laser liposuction technology is important, the liposuction result is also dependent on the experience and skills of the plastic surgeon.
