The number of men and women opting to have plastic surgery has increased steadily over the years. New York City body sculpting includes a wide range of options to rejuvenate the face and body. Cosmetic procedures continue to become safer and more effective and reliable with innovative technologies and techniques. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently released the results of their 2020 annual procedure survey, with national consumer research revealing trends during the COVID-19 era.

According to the report, the top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures in 2020 are:

  • Nose reshaping (352,555 procedures)
  • Eyelid surgery (352,112 procedures)
  • Facelift (234,374 procedures)
  • Liposuction (211,067 procedures)
  • Breast augmentation (193,073 procedures)

ASPS notes that the top three procedures – Nose reshaping, Eyelid surgery and Facelift – are focused on the face. The reason, according to the report, is that focus on facial appearance has increased with virtual remote working. Looking at their own face for more time than usual has made people aware of minor or major flaws in their appearance and this led them to turn to cosmetic plastic surgery for solutions.

Liposuction ranks fourth in the list. For a decade and more, liposuction has been ranking among top five cosmetic surgical procedures, which indicates the growing acceptance of the treatment. With new techniques and technologies, liposuction can now be performed surgically, minimally-invasively and even non-surgically. Leading plastic surgery practices offer minimally-invasive laser liposuction in NYC using the FDA-approved Smartlipo Triplex workstation. The procedure utilizes local anesthesia and can remove stubborn fat from almost all areas of the body – the abdomen, buttocks, love handles, saddle bags, hips, back, knees, inner thighs, outer thighs, upper arms, face, neck and chin – without causing much discomfort or pain. Along with effective fat reduction, the advanced high definition capabilities of the device allow men and women to achieve precise body sculpting outcomes.

Breast augmentation has retained its position among the top procedures and ranked fifth in 2020. Women consider breast augmentation for various reasons such as to restore breast volume and firmness lost due to weight loss, pregnancy, aging, or other reasons or to correct breast asymmetry. Hundreds of thousands of women opt to have this procedure every year as it boosts their confidence and body image, and comes with little adverse effects.

According to the latest ASPS report, there was an overall 15% decrease in total number of cosmetic procedures was witnessed last year. The closure of practices due to the pandemic accounts for this decline. ASPS notes that the organization’s board-certified plastic surgeons reported that they stopped performing elective surgical procedures for an average of 8.1 weeks in 2020 due to the pandemic.

However, though the pandemic has largely confined people to their homes during quarantine, and even resulted in a decline in total number of performed cosmetic procedures, some surgeons’ offices that were closed or offered only limited services last year are now seeing more patients. After analyzing Americans’ perceptions of plastic surgery more than a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, ASPS concluded that Americans have more positive attitude toward plastic surgery during COVID-19.

If you are considering liposuction in NYC or any other cosmetic surgical procedure, choose an AAAASF plastic surgery practice with expert surgeons who can provide customized treatment. Reliable surgery practices adhere to all COVID-19 protocols and focus on the health and safety of patients, staff, and facility.
