Breast Reduction Surgery Yields Good Results in Bodybuilders with Gynecomastia, Report Says

by | Mar 9, 2015 | Gynecomastia /Male Breast Reduction

Most men love to have a well-sculpted body with a flat tummy and chest that contributes to an attractive manly physique. That is one of the reasons why men go for body building. Gynecomastia is a concern for bodybuilders, which is believed to develop partly from the use of anabolic steroids and hormone supplements. The extra fat in the chest area is quite distressing, making men self conscious and reclusive. Gynecomastia can be successfully addressed through breast reduction surgery offered at reputable plastic surgery practices in the U.S, and you can find a few select practices in the New York area that offer the service of experienced and skilled plastic surgeons. The treatment involves removing the excess fat in the chest region and bringing more definition to the chest muscles via a minimally invasive procedure.

Established plastic surgery practices use the advanced Smartlipo Triplex laser liposuction device to provide gynecomastia treatment. Effective fat reduction and considerable skin contraction are among the good results offered by this superior technique. The system’s intelligent delivery systems such as SmartSense™ – ThermaGuide™ and ThermaView™ allow for more targeted delivery of energy and avoid the risk of over treatment. This minimally invasive procedure can be performed under local anesthesia and offers the desired results with less swelling and bleeding and within minimum recovery period. With proper before and after care instructions from the surgeon, minor concerns, if any, can be eliminated.

A new study in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® reports that gynecomastia surgery provides good aesthetic outcomes in bodybuilders. A total of 1,073 patients; 1,600 bodybuilders and others with "good physique" were involved in the study. These patients were followed up for one to five years after surgery. 15 percent of them were competitive bodybuilders and ranged in age from 18 to 51 years. They were not having hormonal or other diseases that can cause gynecomastia. The study results are as follows:

  • Unlike other overweight people, removal of excess fat or skin is not needed for bodybuilders.
  • Most of the men post surgery are "extremely satisfied" with their surgical results.
  • Complications were not that common and usually minor.
  • Only a very few experienced pain, swelling, and bruising.
  • The study gives emphasis to the complete removal of breast gland tissue; by doing so there won’t be any concerns such as recurrent gynecomastia. The problems were not seen even when men continued to use steroids.
